French Broad Crossing Project Reveal

A family retreat was custom designed and built for a retired couple looking to settle some roots in Marshall, North Carolina. With hopes of using this as a vacation home, our clients imagined a welcoming space that could host family and friends for any length of stay. We wanted the home to have a sophisticated "high country" feel yet a casual ruggedness for young families to really live in and enjoy themselves. Having lived all over the country, collecting antiques along the way, our clients desired a “collected” feel to the home with layers of objects both new and old. Our team partnered with Corner Rock Building Co. to create this home from the ground up, designing floor plans, selecting finishes, and hand sourcing each detail. Tag along for a closer look at our favorite spaces of the home.

The Kitchen

Our clients wanted to keep the kitchen a simple, functional yet beautiful space that could be readily used to host families on vacation. We designed an oversized island with seating for four, where family meals could be prepped or morning coffee shared. Built-in appliances and a custom plaster range hood by Orling Finishes gave the space a seamless consistency that draws the attention to other hand-picked details. Brushed nickel hardware, a neutral quartz backsplash and elegant pendant lighting complete the space.

The Living Room

The cathedral ceilings and open concept of the living room drew us to warm, layered details to soften the space. We anchored the room around the stone fireplace, adding built-in nooks on either side for seating extra guests. The low profile furnishings and oversized glass lamps contribute to an unobstructed view of the sprawling mountainscape out the back windows. A collection of warm wooden art pieces line the floating shelves, showcasing the couples gathered items from travels.

The Primary Suite

For the primary suite we wanted to create a serene retreat that felt like a home away from home. We added a touch of drama incorporating our clients handsome four poster bed and velvet accents. But the star of the show in this space is the stunning landscape beyond the wall of windows. To not detract from the views we kept color minimal and neutral, focusing on texture to balance out the rugged landscape.
